One of the most insightful books on China I have read. Helen's ability to convey Chinese history through the eyes of her parents is masterful. This book is an inspiration to those who work towards a better life and should be a must read for all Americans. I look forward to her next book!

This is a great first hand look behind the Great Wall regarding how Communist China treats their people, and how one family - over 3 generations - overcame adversity. The author Helen Raleigh is a real person and now an American by choice, and a great spokesperson for what it means to be American. I've had the privilege of hearing her speak personally on the topic of immigration - she's wonderful.
